Player Spotlight: Lester Hudson, UT Martin

Posted by 49ways on February 10, 2009

Every year there are players who get national attention, and there are players who go unnoticed.  Lester Hudson is one of those who goes unnoticed.  The 6’2″ senior guard from Memphis, TN has torched opponents all season.  And he has the UT-Martin Skyhawks in a good position to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament.  They are currently 16-6 overall, and 9-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference.  Five of their last seven games are at home.

A powerful combo guard, Lester Hudson is the nation’s second leading scorer with 27.7 ppg, just behind Stephen Curry of Davidson.  He leads his team in rebounding (7.6 rpg), steals (2.6 spg), and is second in assists (4.0 apg).  But the most staggering statistic for Hudson is the fact that he is the only player in the nation who has scored at least 20 points in every game this season.  Simply incredible and certainly eye-opening.

I hope the Skyhawks win the OVC Tournament because it would give college basketball fans a chance to see one of this year’s great talents play at least one game.  Who knows?  Maybe Lester Hudson is the second coming of Harold “The Show” Arceneaux.
