John Wall commits to Kentucky

Posted by sawdog on May 19, 2009

Rivals.com and SLAM Magazine are both reporting that John Wall committed to Kentucky last night.  In fact, Rivals has updated their profile for John Wall to reflect his new choice of school.  Wall’s commitment gives Kentucky the #1 and #2 ranked players coming out of high school–John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins.  Add in Daniel Orton (#22), Eric Bledsoe (#23), Jon Hood (#40), and Darnell Dodson (a 4 star juco wing) and you have the ingredients for one of the best recruiting classes in college basketball history.  Both Scout.com and Rivals.com, among other recruiting websites, ranked Kentucky’s class #1 for 2009 even before John Wall’s commitment.

All eyes have been on John Wall’s recruitment for a few months now.  He is perceived to have the game and confidence to make an immediate impact at the PG position as a freshman.  The recent success of Derrick Rose and Tyreke Evens at Memphis under Calipari invites the media and fans to salivate over the potential Wall can have for Calipari’s Dribble Drive Motion offense as well.  For that reason, Kentucky fans have been glued to his recruitment in hopes he would run the show at Kentucky.  Kentucky, in one coaching change, has gone from a struggling team with several question marks to next season’s Must-See-TV, with the most marketable and dynamic coach in college basketball stalking the sidelines and a plethora of multi-skilled, talented kids running up and down the court.  Patrick Patterson, Kentucky’s all-american forward, is coming back.  Jodie Meeks is on the fence but his return to Kentucky could be the trigger towards an immediate final four run.

With John Wall’s commitment, does Kentucky have the best incoming recruiting class in college basketball history?
